01Why the Feet Matter to Your Spine
Each foot has three arches that work together to spread your body weight and absorb shock with every step. When one of those arches falls or flattens, the foot rolls, the ankle follows, and the imbalance carries up through the knee and hip into the pelvis and lower back.
That is why foot problems so often present as knee, hip or back pain rather than as sore feet — and why an adjustment can be harder to hold when the foundation underneath it is uneven.
02Custom Orthotics vs. Over-the-Counter Inserts
The insoles sold in a drugstore are made to fit an average foot, and they generally support one arch. Custom orthotics are made from an impression of your own feet, and are designed to support all three arches so that the foot is balanced through the whole gait cycle.
Because they are built for your feet, they address the specific imbalance you have rather than cushioning the problem — which is what makes the difference over the long term.
03Getting Fitted in Tucson AZ
Fitting starts with an examination and an impression of your feet, so that what is made for you reflects how you actually stand and walk. Dr. Stone will go over what the examination shows and whether orthotics make sense as part of your care.
For patients under chiropractic care, orthotics are usually a complement to adjustments rather than a replacement for them: the adjustments correct the alignment, and the orthotics support the foundation that holds it.
