What Causes Neck Pain
The neck is a small area doing a demanding job. Its vertebrae are small, which gives you a great deal of mobility but also leaves the area more vulnerable to injury and pain. Common causes include trauma such as whiplash, sleeping position, poor posture, repetitive stress, abnormalities in the bone structure, joint problems, and muscle strains and pulls.
Almost all of those either come from, or act on, the alignment of the spine. When neck muscles spasm, they pull the spine out of alignment; when the spine is misaligned, nerves become irritated, which creates more tension and problems further afield. Every nerve in the body has its root in the spinal column, so a problem starting in the neck can reach a long way.
A lot of people in Tucson AZ leave spinal problems uncorrected, hoping the pain will pass. Sometimes the pain does — but the misalignment behind it usually remains, the area gets aggravated again, and the pain comes back. Left long enough, some patients reach the point where surgery becomes the only option left.
